Scalable quantum computing with atomic ensembles

چکیده
Atomic ensembles, comprising clouds of atoms addressed by laser fields, provide an attractive system for both the storage of quantum information and the coherent conversion of quantum information between atomic and optical degrees of freedom. We describe a scheme for full-scale quantum computing with atomic ensembles, in which qubits are encoded in symmetric collective excitations of many atoms. We consider the most important sources of error— imperfect exciton–photon coupling and photon losses—and demonstrate that the scheme is extremely robust against these processes: the required photon emission and collection efficiency threshold is & 86%. Our scheme uses similar methods to those already demonstrated experimentally in the context of quantum repeater schemes and yet has information processing capabilities far beyond those proposals. 4 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed. Coherent Transport of Single Photon in a Quantum Super-cavity with Mirrors Composed of Λ-Type Three-level Atomic Ensembles
In this paper, we study the coherent transport of single photon in a coupled resonator waveguide (CRW) where two threelevel Λ-type atomic ensembles are embedded in two separate cavities. We show that it is possible to control the photon transmission and reflection coefficients by using classical control fields. In particular, we find that the total photon transmission and reflection are achieva...
متن کاملAmillisecond quantummemory for scalable quantum networks
Scalable quantum-information processing requires the capability of storing quantum states1,2. In particular, a longlived storable and retrievable quantum memory for single excitations is of key importance to long-distance quantum communication with atomic ensembles and linear optics3–7. Although atomic memories for classical light8 and continuous variables9 have been demonstrated with milliseco...
متن کاملDipole blockade and quantum information processing in mesoscopic atomic ensembles.
We describe a technique for manipulating quantum information stored in collective states of mesoscopic ensembles. Quantum processing is accomplished by optical excitation into states with strong dipole-dipole interactions. The resulting "dipole blockade" can be used to inhibit transitions into all but singly excited collective states. This can be employed for a controlled generation of collecti...
متن کاملQuantum computing and quantum communication with atoms
We review recent theoretical proposals for implementation of quantum computing and quantum communication with atoms. The first example deals with the realization of a universal quantum simulator with atoms and ions. The second example outlines the implementation of a quantum repeater with atomic ensembles.
متن کاملEntanglement storage in atomic ensembles
– We propose to entangle macroscopic atomic ensembles in cavity using EPRcorrelated beams. We show how the field entanglement can be almost perfectly mapped onto the long-lived atomic spins associated with the ground states of the ensembles, and how it can be retrieved in the fields exiting the cavities after a variable storage time. Such a continuous variable quantum memory is of interest for ...
